Launch of Skill Gap Study Report and Annual Industry Partners Meet 2024

The Tourism and Hospitality Skill Sector Council (THSC) has launched its highly anticipated report on the Demand and Skill Gap, alongside the Annual Industry Partners Meet. The Annual Industry Partners Meet 2024 was conducted under the theme of “Navigating the Future: Bridging Skill Gaps for the Tourism and Hospitality Industry.”

 

THSC is pleased to announce that the Demand Skill Gap Study report, was unveiled by Mr. Atul Kumar Tiwari, Secretary of the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship, along with Ms. Jyoti Mayal, Chairperson THSC, in the presence of dignitaries: Ms. Vinita Aggarwal, Executive Member, NCVET; Ms. Neena Phuja, Executive Member, NCVET; Col. Mahendra Payaal, Chief Program Officer, NSDC; Mr. Risikesh Patankar, VP, Industry & Academia Collaboration, NSDC at India Habitat Centre on March 21, 2024.

 

A demand and skill gap study was deemed necessary due to evolving consumer preferences, government focus on niche sectors, and advancements in technology. The study aimed to address changing customer preferences such as adventure tourism, eco/sustainable tourism, wellness and medical tourism, and entrepreneurial aspirations. Additionally, it considered the government’s emphasis on niche sub-sectors like cruise tourism, rural tourism, and religious tourism, along with the impact of advancing technologies such as big data, artificial intelligence, and automation.

 

The Skill Gap report launch was followed by an Industry Partner meeting which revolved around “Navigating the Future: Bridging Skill Gaps for the Tourism and Hospitality Industry.” The agenda encompassed a series of pertinent discussions and presentations aimed at addressing key challenges and opportunities within the sector. Scheduled sessions include insightful presentations on the implementation of the Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) framework under the National Apprenticeship Promotion Scheme (NAPS), a panel discussion focusing on the multifaceted challenges and issues encountered by the industry, particularly concerning the demand-supply gap and the efficacy of the Recruit, Train, and Deploy model, as well as deliberations on the Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) and the significance of Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR).

THSC celebrated its Annual Training Partners' Meet on July 14, 2023, on the eve of World Youth Skills Day. More than 100 Training Partners from across the country came together to celebrate this annual occasion.

The event was graced by the presence of the following dignitaries: Shri Atul Kumar Tiwari, IAS, Secretary, Ministry of Skill Development & Entrepreneurship, Govt of India; Ms. Vinita Aggarwal, IES (Retd), Executive Member, NCVET; Mr. Suhas Deshmukh, Director, NCVET; Ms. Jyoti Mayal, Chairperson, THSC; Mr. Anil Parashar, President & CEO, Interglobe Technology; and Chef Davinder Kumar, VP-Food Production, Le Meridien.

During the event, THSC launched an online Learning Management System, the Demand-Supply Study, and a Bi-Annual Newsletter in the august presence of all dignitaries. The full-day event also featured various presentations by esteemed partners, followed by special recognition and awards under various categories for the best performing achievers.

Sodexo is an industry partner of THSC providing opportunities to THSC certified & skilled workers in food catering and facilities management services across India.

The agreement was signed by Mr Rajan Bahadur, CEO THSC and Mr Pradeep Chavda, Director, Human Resources, Sodexo India in presence of Ms Annick de Vanssay, Chief Human Resources Officer, Sodexo Group, Ms Anusoorya Themudu, SVP HR, Sodexo APMEA and Mr Sambit Sahu, Managing Director, Sodexo India. The event marked as a steppingstone and growth of the hospitality industry in India.

Sodexo has completed 25 years of operations in India and has more than 1000 sites operated by 40,000 employees who are directly engaged. Their commitment will both the organizations to train & skill Indian youth aspiring to join the hospitality industry which is witnessing a high growth trajectory post pandemic. It will also provide both male & female youths equal opportunities to work in their home state or migrate to states with high job demands.

The Tourism & Hospitality Skill Council (THSC), an approved awarding body under NCVET, signed an important Memorandum of Understanding with American Hotel and Lodging Educational Institute (AHLEI), one of the foremost providers of quality resources to educate, develop, and certify hospitality educators, students, and professionals. It is widely recognized as the prominent leader in hospitality education and certification.

The agreement was signed by Rajan Bahadur, CEO THSC and Ed Kastli, International CVP AHLEI in presence of Shri Atul Kumar Tiwari, IAS, Secretary Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship, Govt of India, Ms Jyoti Mayal, Chairperson THSC along with 50+ prominent industry partners recently.

This agreement will help both the organizations to share knowledge, benchmark standards and provide access to globally recognised certifications. It will also contribute to the advancement of teachers, curriculum improvement and training readiness of students and existing hospitality professionals in India via this landmark collaboration.

The MoU was signed between Mr. Rajan Bahadur, CEO – of THSC, Mr. Neeraj Govil, Senior VP, South Asia, Marriott International, and Mr. Gurmeet Singh, Senior Area Director of HR, South Asia, Marriott International Inc., in the presence of Dr. Manish Kumar, MD & CEO, NSDC. 

The MoU between THSC and Marriott India underscores commitment to address the skilling gap in the job market in the Tourism and Hospitality sector. Marriott India will run the training curriculum aligned to National Skills Qualifications Framework (NSQF) designed by THSC. Once the training is completed, the apprentices will be jointly assessed and certified by Marriott and THSC. THSC will also offer operational support in implementing the training program.
